Discart FAQ Question : My Discart machine fails to read the disk, shows "disk not ready 3" or produces crc errors. What's wrong ? Answer : It's likely that you've got a faulty disk or disk-drive. Try a different disk in the same drive. If this shows the same fault, then you have a defective disk-drive. Either replace the dusk-drive with another one (if you have one), or return the drive to Sonifex to see if it can be refurbished. Note : There are no longer any more of the 2.88MB drives available to operate with the Discart and micro-cart series of machines, so the only option is refurbishment of existing drives. Question : When playing disks, the audio is noisy (popping and crackling or high pitched tone). What's wrong ? Answer : Try replacing the timing PAL (PA7024), Q33. This can be ordered from Sonifex. Question : The Discart fails to initialise and/or does not retain the time and date settings. What's wrong ? Answer : The lithium cell in the Discart needs replacing, Sonifex part number 16-283. Question : The Discart fails to initialise and/or keeps resetting (sometimes on loading a disk). What's wrong ? Answer : The fault is that the main +5V supply rail has become noisy, is low or keeps dipping. The cure is to replace Q2 on the power supply PCB, GSR405/2 dc-dc converter, Sonifex part number 55-317. Question : Drives fail to recognise that a disk has been inserted or fails to recognise the type of disk (ED,HD, etc) Answer : The fault is that one or both of the disk detection switches has been broken. If it is a Sony drive, then you can get spare switches from Sonifex, part number 55-824. If the drive is of any other type, then you'll have to replace the drive. (See first question in FAQ)
