After a long period in re-design, Sonifex has shipped the first of it's long awaited Redbox RB-ADDA A/D and D/A converters to Aspen Media Ltd. Aspen Media is a specialist supplier of professional audio equipment to the recording, broadcast and post-production industries and is using this particular Redbox as part of an installation of a multi studio broadcast production facility.
The RB-ADDA was one of the first units launched in the initial Redbox range in 1999. When some of the RB-ADDA components were discontinued, the expensive replacement parts meant that the RB-ADDA no longer met the low cost criteria, which was a major part of the original Redbox concept. Chris Stills, Technical Director for Sonifex commented "The problem with the RB-ADDA was not in designing a high performance product but in designing a high performance product at a low cost and this proved to be the headache for Sonifex' designers. However, we're not a company that turns down a challenge and we firmly believe that the new RB-ADDA fits very nicely into the Redbox range as a low cost, high performance product. Initial feedback on the new box has certainly been very positive."
Using 24 bit, 96kHz devices, the RB-ADDA A/D and D/A converter is a 1U rack-mount which produces an AES-EBU or S/PDIF level digital audio output from a balanced XLR or unbalanced phono stereo audio input. The unit also produces a stereo balanced XLR or unbalanced phono output from an incoming AES/EBU or S/PDIF digital input signal.
The RB-ADDA will be on show on the Sonifex stand 9.136 at the IBC.
